Here's a Fun Tip...

Just a quick hello today.  It's World Penguin Day, so thought I'd share this photo.  Did you know that penguins have knees?  Yep, another fun fact; many penguins mate for life.

Onto the fun tip.

How to steam milk at home if you don't have a  fancy shmancy milk steamer:

All you need is a microwave safe jar with a lid.  I used a Mason jar.  Pour milk of choice, no more than a third of the size of the jar.  Skim milk does the best, and then whole milk; I tried half and half but it didn't work too well.  I am sure there's a scientific explanation for this, but this is not Alton Brown's blog, so ...

Put lid on and shake jar for 30 seconds.  Take the lid off and put jar in microwave for about 30 seconds.  Remove, use spoon to hold back froth;  pour hot milk into beverage, then spoon froth on top.

I had been curious about this, and finally thought to do a little research.  Found the tip on theKitchn.  If you click, be prepared to spend some time; lots of great advice, recipes, etc.

If you have the time and money to visit a coffee house every day, hats off to you.  Or you can invest in an espresso machine ($71+), or a milk aerator ( stick $10+/ frother $20+).  If you are like me though, have other things you would rather spend the extra money on, and just want a nice touch on your morning cup of joe, this is a great tip to know.

So, enjoy your day and be sure stop by again soon.

S.
