Feminist Notes & A Plea

Back in July of 2014, I published the post, "Are You A Feminist?
Then on, (10/17/14) I received an email from Equality Now, an organization that works for human rights for women and girls around the world.  The email included an update on the nearly 300 girls who were taken from their Nigerian school in April, by Boko Haram.  Six months later, 219 were still in captivity.  If you don't read past this intro, fine; but please share and spread: #BringBackOurGirls Now and Alive!!!! via email, facebook, twitter, and all other social media.
*Now, a year later, 10/19/15, these links are no more; as you've discovered if you clicked.  THIS, IS THE MOST RECENT RELEVANT ARTICLE I COULD FIND. They do still have a FACEBOOK PAGE. Today is the 553rd day since they were taken. Through their Facebook site, you can still help the quest. Thank you.

The following post is composed of notes, some that went into "Are You A Feminist?"  Some are from more than a year ago.  The thoughts expressed are mine, and range, from inducing me to roll my eyes, to causing my blood to boil.  I believe that each human is charged with an individual path, but that all the paths are connected.  As such it is our priviledge and responsibility to care for one another, while in this brief time, in this life.  Could we ever make it "on Earth as it is in Heaven"?  I do believe we have the means.  A year later, and there is more at stake than ever.  The efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and the continued unwillingness to acknowledge; that as long as we do not address that until we have gender equality, we will not have income equality, or our full potential as a nation; These actions/inactions will keep us on the ever turning hamster wheel.

Let's Clear Something Up

I promise this will be short.

I came across the term "feminist-friendly" tonight.

It was listed among other social issues, to define "socially liberal."

The descriptors were, pro-choice; racially sensitive; feminist friendly; gay friendly; and secular.

"Feminist friendly" is redundant.

The only other descriptor that featured "friendly" was "gay friendly".  Because an institution most likely, is not entirely homosexual; but can be accepting and compassionate to those who are.

However; an institution can be 100% feminist.

If it's not; it's not "feminist friendly."

That's all.

G'night.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Just so you know, March is National Women's History Month.  The above photo is of Susan B. Anthony and appeared in my, "Have You Seen This Woman?"
Today is International Women's Day and there are a lot of ways to commemorate the day.
In the spirit of brevity though, I'm just gonna list 2 works to check out- cause I'm a busy lady- just like most women I know.
will take about 10 minutes to read; there are many links, so I suggest bookmarking the page if you don't have time to visit all the articles and sites you'd like to.

                      2) I just finished Who Cooked The Last Supper? by Rosalind Miles.  Highly recommend.  Not always easy to read, but I couldn't put it down.

In the time being, wishing you a proud and happy International Women's Day and don't forget...

P.S.- I am reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice for the ? time.  Can't help but wonder what Jane would think of the world and women's place in it, if she was alive today.  Definitely was ahead of her time.

Have You Seen This Woman?

The above photo is of the amazing Susan B. Anthony.  It is one of the few that I found that was not a profile shot.

This post will be short, but the message concise:  GET OUT AND VOTE TODAY!

Consider all the facts, and make your much fought for voice count.

In a recent exchange of messages on Huffington Post concerning the subject of pro-choice and pro-life (two titles I abhor), a contributor, Cosmo 2010 stated:

"It's really not pro-choice or pro-life, it's pro-civil rights or anti-civil rights.  Women want and deserve civil rights as much as anyone.  And they are entitled to them. Civil rights should never be up for votes or legislation.  Civil rights simply exist, because they are human rights."

Nobody likes abortion.  But I think the need to keep the option safe and available should be self evident.  I would like to make sure everyone has it as a safe and legal option first.  Then I will do all I can to get rid of the need.  Still, I know that even after those efforts there will be cases that it will still be needed.  Life is precious.  But it's time to realize the reality that we grow up with is not the same in another town, or even next door.  Here at home, I will do all I can to make sure there is never a need for it.  Which includes education for how the body works, the fact that every choice comes with consequence, and being very involved in my daughters' lives.  If, after that, something happens there is no way in Hell I would want one of my daughters to endure what Jessica Davis had to.  If you don't know what I am talking about, click this link: http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/abortion-restrictions-in-oklahoma

It is time to make the words on our stamps, more than words.

As my endeavor to find things to be thankful about during November, I am THANKFUL to live in a country that votes.  I am beyond thankful for the many women who, fought diligently and sacrificed much to make that privilege possible for me, a woman.  I know it's not the reality for much of the world over.
Since, I enjoy this right, privilege, and responsibility, thanks to the many women that came before, I hope you will tolerate my closing resting on the laurels of another blog's post.
Dreams Underfoot, is a blog by a woman in Kentucky, named Susan.  Hope you find her blog as endearing and enjoyable as I did.   On August 19, 2011she posted a timely and important tribute to these women.
Please visit and read, "to be anything or nothing".  I could not have said it better myself.

Please exercise your hard fought right and privilege to vote.

Many will be thankful.
